Web Hosting Terminologies:
Cpanel – The Cpanel is simply a visual way to control different aspects of your hosting. For example, if you want to add another domain to your hosting package. You would go to the Cpanel and click on the “Add on domain” section. There are many other things you can do in the Cpanel as well.
Domain – A domain is simply the name of your website. When you purchase a domain, you now have a legal right over that domain and no one can take it away from you. Unless you do not renew your domain every year. If you do not renew your domain, it will then be put up for auction.
You can also trademark your domain. Let’s create a website called, “thetoysrus.com”. That’s simply copying ToysRus. So be careful when creating your domain.
Hosting – Your website cannot go online without hosting. Hosting will allow your website to be put online. A host is simply a server. A server is simply a computer which stores data. There many web hosting types and business web hosting is the best for business websites hosting.
Dedicated server – So now that you know what hosting is. There are different types of hosting. Dedicated hosting is where only your website is stored on a server and no one else.
Shared hosting – Shared hosting is where multiple websites can be put on one server. There are pros and cons to this. A pro would be, shared hosting is a cheap option. A con would be, shared hosting is not that fast since you will have to share resources with other websites.

WordPress – WordPress is an online and simple way to build a website. It’s free to use and is a mainstream way to build a website. I personally build all my websites using WordPress. It completely blows away 100% programming a website from start to finish.

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) – An SSL or SSL certificate as it is often referred to as a way to provide protection to your website. Protecting your website’s data. When you install an SSL certificate to your website, your website will have “https” instead of “http” in the web address.

You also receive a lock icon as well. If you don’t have an SSL, this will show as “Not Secure” in the web address.
IP address – An IP address is a unique string of numbers that are assigned to devices that can access the internet as well as networks. A domain is a way humans can identify the name of the website, for example, “fernandoraymond.com“. An IP address is a way computers can understand and identify a website.
Bandwidth – Bandwidth is simply the rate at which data is transferred. If you have a slow bandwidth connection, you’re going to get slow speeds. If you have a fast bandwidth connection, you will get fast loading speeds.
Reseller hosting – Reseller hosting is where you’ve purchased hosting from your hosting company but you’re able to use your hosting as a service for others. You can use your allotted hard drive space and bandwidth to serve other websites. You can purchase reseller hosting in bulk and provide your own hosting. Possibly making a profit.
HTML – HTML stands for Hypertext Markup Language. It’s the primary language used to create web pages. Also, it’s one of the simplest computing languages to learn.
Spam – Spam is irrelevant and unwanted messages which are typically sent as emails. They’re full of advertisements and malware.
